Attractions in Angels Camp
The Angels Hotel on Main Street and Birds way is where Mark Twain said he heard a short story that he would turn into "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." What started as a canvas tent became a wooden structure with just one story. The Angels Hotel went through several changes, being rebuilt in stone before having a second story added. The hotel plays a part in the Jumping Frog Jubilee every year, and has a Frog Hop of Fame where the plaques bearing the names of winners of the frog jumping contest can be seen. The building no longer operates as a hotel, but it is definitely a site to appreciate in Angels Camp.
